Dave Lee Travis
Dave Lee Travis began his career as a DJ at the legendary Oasis Club in Manchester before becoming tour manager for Herman’s Hermits in 1964 when they gigged across the USA. On his return he joined Radio Caroline South later moving to Radio Caroline North. After the pirates were closed down, he presented the TV show Beat Club from Germany and then Pop North for the newly-formed Radio One. At various times he presented Saturday, Sunday and weekday shows as well as Radio One Club and the Radio One Roadshow. In 1976 he was given the regular tea-time programme, before taking over the Breakfast Show in 1978. In 1981 he moved to weekday afternoons and continued to present many different shows until resigning in 1993. From 1981-2001 he presented ‘A Jolly Good Show’ for BBC World Service. Post Radio One he worked for various stations including Classic Gold and Magic. A regular presenter of Top of the Pops during the 1970s and 1980s, DLT also had a big hit, Convoy GB’ with fellow DJ Paul Burnett, as Laurie Lingo & the Dipsticks.
