A broadcasting legend. A man who many still call “Kid Jensen” – a nickname he was given by DJ Paul Burnett back in 1968, when David joined Radio Luxembourg at the age of 18-years-old, where he stayed for six years.
The Canadian-born personality joined BBC Radio 1 in 1976 and shot to fame, while also hosting various TV shows including Top of the Pops. David Jensen gave many future stars their radio or TV break, including Gary Numan,The Police and Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
After leaving Radio 1 in 1984, David hosted shows on Capital FM, Capital Gold, Heart, Planet Rock, Smooth Radio and other stations, plus his work on television here and in the USA. Today, David presents shows on various local BBC stations and is thrilled to join some of his former colleagues on United DJs.
In his personal life, David is married to Iceland-born Guðrún and they have three children and seven grandchildren. He loves his football and supports Crystal Palace FC, where he is Chairman of Crystal Palace F.C. Vice-President’s Club. In 2010 he became a Freeman of the City of London, and was inducted into the UK Radio Hall of Fame.
