Paul’s love of Radio started when he was 9 years old and the proud owner of a pocket AM transistor, discovering the delights of Radio Luxembourg & RNI at nights. He signed up for hospital radio during his misspent “yoof” and also ran what became a reasonably successful mobile disco business ultimately catering to the likes of Lionel Richie, Keith Prowse, BT and Marks & Spencer amongst the clientele.
Paul’s professional radio career spans nearly thirty years and includes London’s Smooth Radio, Chiltern, FOX FM, Capital / Southern FM and BRMB/XTRA amongst others. And in true spirit with the movie “The Boat That Rocked”, he’s even DJ’d on Radio Seagull’s mediumwave ship, the L-V8 “Jenni Baynton.”
But like many, he find today’s commercial radio rather repetitive & predictable. Since 2011, from his own studio, he’s been producing shows for a variety of radio stations on FM/DAB/SKY, aimed at listeners who want to hear all that great but forgotten music again, delivered with a bit of warmth and personality.
Paul was once featured on Page 3 of The Sun newspaper (“thankfully with my clothes on!” he hastens to add) in a story about a female listener who drove 150 miles round the M25, three times a week from her home in Bedfordshire, to hear his new radio show in Sussex. He was amazed because people would usually drive OUT of the area when he was on-air!
Paul is delighted to be part of UDJ and having hosted the likes of Tony Blackburn, DLT, Graham Dene and Paul Burnett as special guests on his past radio shows, he’s enjoying working again with some of his personal heroes.
